Is there room to build African tourism through Blogs?

Most definitely. There is not just room, but a massive opportunity to build African tourism through blogs. The key is doing it strategically and authentically.

Africa’s tourism story is still largely being told by outsiders, but that is changing, and it must change faster.

Across the continent, we sit on an untapped digital goldmine: our stories, our destinations, our culture, and our lived experiences. Blogs are no longer just online diaries, they are powerful tourism drivers that shape perception, influence travel decisions, and build trust with global audiences.

For too long, African destinations have been underrepresented or misrepresented. Yet, who better to tell the story of Mozambique’s (coastline), the vibrancy of Maputo, or the hidden gems beyond the mainstream routes than those who live and work within these spaces every day?

Tourism today is driven by information, inspiration, and authenticity.

A well-written blog can:

• Inspire a traveler to choose Maputo over another destination

• Showcase lesser-known locations and experiences

• Support small businesses, lodges, and local tour operators

• Build confidence in safety, accessibility, and hospitality standards

More importantly, blogs allow us to take ownership of our narrative.

Imagine a consistent stream of content highlighting:

– Bleisure travel opportunities across Mozambique

– Cultural experiences that go beyond the typical tourist lens

– Investment potential in tourism and hospitality

– Real stories from travellers and industry players

This is how we shift from being a “destination” to becoming an experience people actively seek out.

As African tourism stakeholders, whether in hospitality, transport, or destination management—we must embrace content creation as part of our growth strategy. Not tomorrow, but now.

Because if we don’t tell our stories, someone else will—and they may not tell them right.
